The Arbuzov Reaction (also known as the Michaelis-Arbuzov Reaction)

The formation of alkyl phosphonates from phosphites. (Z1,Z2=R,R; R,OR; OR,OR).

This reaction gives pentavalent alkyl phosphoric acid esters by treatment of trivalent phosphoric acid esters with alkyl halides. As an example, the mechanism for phosphorous acid esters is shown below.
