University

Oxford University is one of the world's largest and oldest Universities. It is divided into several Colleges and Private Halls. These are where the students live and eat, and where a large proportion of their teaching is carried out; whilst each of the departments has its own buildings and facilities, and lectures and practicals are University organised, the students are given tutorials in Colleges by the College tutors.

There are numerous Clubs and Societies at the University, catering for all tastes. There are sports clubs for any sport you could think of (and many you couldn't), several orchestras, and even an Assassins Club for those who are into that kind of thing... The colleges also have their own clubs and societies, some of which overlap with those within the University and some which don't. And if the club doesn't exist? Well, then you start it up yourself! I helped set up, and am still involved in the running of, OUCH, a French Horn choir in Oxford.

The University has wonderful facilities, each college and department having it's own library, as well as the Bodlean, the main University library (known as the "Bod" by those in Oxford). This is split up into several smaller "sub-libraries", many of which have their own name. To search the library database you can either search using a web browser, or using a telnet window.

If you are interested in applying to Oxford, as an undergraduate you will need to apply to a college (see here for more details), whilst as a graduate the application procedure will differ according to which department you are applying to (see departmental web pages for more details).
